The mirror test
Every system we study at Routiner Lab starts from the same premise: the only meaningful benchmark is your own previous self. Comparing your day one to someone else’s year ten produces anxiety, not insight. Comparing this week to last week produces data you can act on.
A useful practice is the evening mirror test. One question, answered honestly: did today’s actions match the person I claim I am becoming? Not perfectly — directionally. Streaks are fragile; direction compounds.
Design the rematch
Losing a day is not failure; it is information. Note what broke the routine, remove one point of friction, and schedule the rematch for tomorrow morning. You versus you is the only match where losing teaches you how to win.
